MIGRATE FROM WORDPRESS

Move from WordPress to a static Astro site

Moving from WordPress to Astro usually means rewriting templates, exporting content to Markdown and losing the editor your team knows. With Typeroll, your AI agent moves the content into a CMS with a visual editor, and Typeroll publishes the result as a static Astro site.

What moves

  • Pages and posts, as Pages with Content types (for example article at /blog/{slug}/)
  • Custom post types, as Content types
  • Categories and tags, as Pages with their own Content types that articles reference
  • Images used on the imported pages, transferred into your own Cloudflare R2 storage
  • Titles, meta descriptions, canonicals and redirects
  • With the helper plugin: navigation menus, ACF fields, Elementor and Breakdance builder data, and the complete canonical URL list

What does not move: the WordPress theme and CSS, plugins and plugin data that is not content. Your agent rebuilds the look with blocks: close to the old design, or renewed, decided separately from the text.

Content type settings with singular and plural names, URL pattern, sorting and the default page template.

The migration, step by step

  1. Connect storage first. Media is transferred straight into your own storage.
  2. Import. The agent reads WordPress through its REST API, or through the Typeroll helper plugin for sites where the API is limited.
  3. Rebuild as blocks. Imported HTML is rebuilt as editable blocks, one template prototype at a time, before bulk work.
  4. Check every URL. Each old public URL gets a destination: the same path, or a redirect. The URL check reports anything missing.
  5. Review and publish. Previews, publication checks and an SEO launch check before you switch DNS.

Preserve or renew

Choose independently for text and for design (including images): keep every word but refresh the design, or keep the design and rewrite the copy. Every combination still keeps every URL. Choose your migration approach

GOOD QUESTIONS

Questions and answers

Will I lose search rankings?

A migration always carries risk. Typeroll reduces it by keeping or redirecting every URL, carrying over titles, descriptions and canonicals, and checking the result before launch.

How long does it take?

It depends on the number of templates and how custom the design is. Large media libraries transfer in the background.

Do I need to keep WordPress running?

Until the new site is verified and DNS is switched. Keep the originals until you have checked the migration; the guide covers this.
