ASTRO CMS

An Astro CMS for editors and AI agents

Typeroll stores your content in a CMS and publishes it as a static Astro website. People edit in a visual editor; AI agents work through MCP and the API; every publication becomes Astro source in your GitHub repository and static files in your Cloudflare account.

How Typeroll uses Astro

Typeroll is not an integration you add to an existing Astro codebase. It generates the Astro project.

  1. Edit in Typeroll. Pages, blocks, templates, media and settings live in the CMS.
  2. Generate Astro source. Publishing freezes a version and writes buildable Astro source to a GitHub repository you own.
  3. Build and host. Cloudflare or GitHub builds it; Cloudflare serves the static output from your account. Media is served from your R2 bucket.

The generated repository is portable: you can build and host it yourself. Manual edits to it are not a supported round trip; the CMS is the source.

What you get instead of wiring a CMS into Astro yourself

  • A visual block editor with responsive previews
  • Content types with custom fields and URL patterns, Page templates and reusable blocks
  • Custom block types created by your AI agent, with editable fields
  • Responsive images (AVIF and WebP) prepared at publication
  • Sitemaps, robots.txt, llms.txt, canonical URLs, hreflang and structured data
  • Forms and cookieless analytics as built-in modules
  • Versions, private previews and publication checks before a site goes live

When an Astro integration CMS fits better

If you want to keep a hand-written Astro codebase and only add editing for some content, an integration-style CMS such as Keystatic, TinaCMS or EmDash is closer to that model. Typeroll fits when you want the whole site, its templates and its publishing managed in one CMS, edited by people and agents.

Moving an existing Astro site

Your agent can migrate an Astro project into Typeroll: Content Collections become Content types and Pages, layouts become Page templates and blocks, and every existing URL is preserved or redirected. Migrate from Astro

GOOD QUESTIONS

Questions and answers

Which Astro features can I use?

The site is generated from Typeroll's own Astro template. You shape it with blocks, templates, Styles and custom block types rather than by editing Astro components directly.

Is the output static?

Yes. Pages are built ahead of time and served as static files. Forms and other dynamic features run as separate services.

Can I self-host?

Yes. Typeroll CMS is open source (MIT). The reference self-hosting profile uses Google Cloud and Firebase for the CMS and Cloudflare for hosting and media.

Does it work with Astro's i18n?

Typeroll handles languages itself: language folders with their own home page, 404 page, built-in wording and hreflang links. Multilingual sites
