# Connect your agent, client by client Source: [Connect your agent, client by client](https://typeroll.com/docs/getting-started/connect-your-agent/) > Copy-paste setup for Typeroll's MCP server in Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Codex and ChatGPT, for Typeroll Cloud and self-hosted portals. Typeroll’s MCP server gives an AI agent the same site tools as the portal. This page has the exact setup for common clients. For credentials, the local process and troubleshooting, see [Connect your AI agent](https://typeroll.com/docs/getting-started/mcp-server/). | Connection | Address or command | | -------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Hosted, Typeroll Cloud | `https://app.typeroll.com/api/mcp` | | Hosted, self-hosted portal | `https:///api/mcp` | | Local process (stdio) | `npx -y @typeroll/mcp-server` with `TYPEROLL_API_URL` and `TYPEROLL_API_KEY` | The hosted server uses MCP Streamable HTTP. You sign in to Typeroll and approve access, so no key is copied. Replace the Cloud address with your portal’s address when you self-host. The examples were checked against each provider’s documentation on November 1, 2026. Typeroll has not yet recorded an end-to-end test in every client; see [Client compatibility](https://typeroll.com/docs/getting-started/client-compatibility/). After connecting, ask the agent a read-only question first: ```text List the Typeroll sites available to this connection. Do not change anything. ``` ## Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop) Connectors are added to your Claude account and then work in Claude Desktop too. 1. Open **Customize → Connectors**, select **+ Add**, then **Add custom connector**. On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it under **Organization settings → Connectors**, and members then select **Connect**. 2. Enter the name `Typeroll` and the URL `https://app.typeroll.com/api/mcp`, then select **Continue**. 3. Keep the detected sign-in settings and choose **Sign in now**. 4. Sign in to Typeroll and select **Allow access**. See [Claude’s custom connector instructions](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11175166-get-started-with-custom-connectors-using-remote-mcp). ## Claude Code Hosted server: ```bash claude mcp add --transport http typeroll https://app.typeroll.com/api/mcp ``` Then run `/mcp` inside Claude Code, choose `typeroll` and sign in in the browser. Add `--scope user` to use the connection in every project, or `--scope project` to share it through the project’s `.mcp.json`. Local process, bound to one site by its API key: ```bash claude mcp add --env TYPEROLL_API_URL=https://app.typeroll.com --env TYPEROLL_API_KEY= --transport stdio typeroll -- npx -y @typeroll/mcp-server ``` Keep `--transport stdio` between the `--env` options and the server name, and everything after `--` unchanged. See [Claude Code’s MCP guide](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/mcp). ## Cursor [Add Typeroll to Cursor](cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=typeroll\&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2FwcC50eXBlcm9sbC5jb20vYXBpL21jcCJ9) opens Cursor with the hosted server filled in. To add it by hand, put this in `~/.cursor/mcp.json` (every project) or `.cursor/mcp.json` (one project): ```json { "mcpServers": { "typeroll": { "url": "https://app.typeroll.com/api/mcp" } } } ``` Cursor opens the Typeroll sign-in when it first connects. For the local process: ```json { "mcpServers": { "typeroll": { "type": "stdio", "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "@typeroll/mcp-server"], "env": { "TYPEROLL_API_URL": "https://app.typeroll.com", "TYPEROLL_API_KEY": "${env:TYPEROLL_API_KEY}" } } } } ``` See [Cursor’s MCP guide](https://cursor.com/docs/context/mcp). ## VS Code VS Code uses a `servers` map. Add this to the workspace’s `.vscode/mcp.json`, or run **MCP: Open User Configuration** for every workspace: ```json { "servers": { "typeroll": { "type": "http", "url": "https://app.typeroll.com/api/mcp" } } } ``` From a terminal, the same server can be added to your user profile: ```bash code --add-mcp '{"name":"typeroll","type":"http","url":"https://app.typeroll.com/api/mcp"}' ``` Start the server from the MCP view and approve the Typeroll sign-in. See [VS Code’s MCP configuration reference](https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/agents/reference/mcp-configuration). ## Codex Add the hosted server to `~/.codex/config.toml`: ```toml [mcp_servers.typeroll] url = "https://app.typeroll.com/api/mcp" ``` Then sign in: ```bash codex mcp login typeroll ``` Local process: ```bash codex mcp add typeroll --env TYPEROLL_API_URL=https://app.typeroll.com --env TYPEROLL_API_KEY= -- npx -y @typeroll/mcp-server ``` See [Codex’s MCP documentation](https://developers.openai.com/codex/mcp). ## ChatGPT ChatGPT connects to remote MCP servers only, so use the hosted address. Custom apps need developer mode, and which plans may use write tools changes over time. Check OpenAI’s current terms for your plan and workspace. 1. Open **Settings → Apps → Advanced settings** and turn on **Developer mode**. 2. Select **Create app**, name it `Typeroll` and enter `https://app.typeroll.com/api/mcp`. 3. Choose OAuth sign-in, then sign in to Typeroll and select **Allow access**. Confirm that editing and publishing tools are available before you rely on them. See [OpenAI’s developer mode instructions](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/12584461-developer-mode-and-full-mcp-connectors-in-chatgpt-beta). ## Other clients Any client with MCP Streamable HTTP and OAuth can use the hosted address. A client that only sends fixed headers can use `Authorization: Bearer ` with an [API key](https://typeroll.com/docs/getting-started/mcp-server/#choose-credentials). Never put a key in the URL. Clients that launch local processes can use the stdio command above. ## Help your agent read the docs Point the agent at the [documentation index for agents](https://typeroll.com/docs/llms.txt). It describes every page and links to plain-text versions, a short overview (`llms-small.txt`), focused sets such as the MCP tool reference and the skills, and the complete documentation (`llms-full.txt`).
